After the marathon blogging challenge, let’s begin the month with something simple and basic. I know reams have been written about the right kind of handshake and people still get it wrong. It isn’t rocket science and these basics will help you get it right with just a little practice. I’m going to share an article about it with inputs from me:
Make it firm: There’s nothing worse than a limp handshake. Some people just extend their hand and leave the rest to you. There is no movement of their hand. Maybe it’s better not to shake hands at all.
Give you whole hand: The next worse thing to a limp shake is being offered just the fingers. It’s like welcoming someone home but not willing to let them in. Go all the way, even if it is a woman!
Make eye contact: Look into the eyes of the person you are shaking hands with and smile. These are all simultaneous actions with the shake.
Shake and leave: 2 pumps and then move back. That’s all a professional handshake is about.
Here is a great article I found on the basics of handshakes, especially for women
